PostHeaderIcon How long does the whole divorce process take?

Question by ilovearchuleta: How long does the whole divorce process take?
My parents just announced to me and my siblings (about 2 days ago) that they will be getting a divorce. I am really upset because I am 17 years old so this has hit me hard. I really don’t know whats gonna happen and how the living arrangements are going to be. How long does it usually take until things are settled and they are actually divorced (like living arrangements, and all the legal papers are signed and such)? Also if anyone has any kind words or advice it would really help because right now I can’t even believe it’s happening to me & my family (I never thought it would). Thanks.

they can file today and get if finalized in california in 6 months some states are different .keep telling them to grow up when they use you kids as a weapon against eachother thats going to happen just watch they will act like little kids and do real stupid things and visitation right are so stupid hay get real if this one wants to see the dad then do it and so on you be the mediator and set the example of the way it should be remember they will do alot of stupid things especialy if this is the first time so be strong not emotional use your head and anilize what they do and correct them when you see them acting so dumb most idiots who get a divorce want to win a war and make the other look bad at everything and make themself look good and never take the blame for anything its called save face. hope for the best plan for the worst and dont cry at all just grow up fast and look at them as little kids and set them straight. one thing leads to another . they will always try to win the war against eachother and destroy their own life over nothing . dont let them use you as a weapon and dont let them make you go against the other. remember tell them grow up learn from their mistakes and all the mistakes made are simply stupid

PostHeaderIcon Is it never a good idea to give legal custody to your spouse in a divorce?

Question by Evil Wordmonger, LTD LOL: Is it never a good idea to give legal custody to your spouse in a divorce?
I did, and now I’m thinking I should have listened to the little voice in my head. Is it too late to change my mind? I signed the papers, but they have not come back from the judge’s review. I have no lawyer, my husband does, and he talked me out of getting one to save money. He is military and I am the dependent spouse.
I gave him legal and physical custody so that our kids can continue to go to the school and be with their friends and not have to move. My purpose was to not upset their routines and lives any more than I had to, so I gave him physical custody.
But now I’m being told there is never a reason to give up legal custody.
Our children are 17 and 14.
Umm, ok…I want to make clear that I am OK with giving him physical custody; it’s better for the children for the above reasons I’ve already stated. He is a good father, they are settled in their lives here, and it would be impossible for me to afford living here in Hawaii and supporting the three of us.
IT’S THE LEGAL CUSTODY I AM CONCERNED ABOUT.

PostHeaderIcon How can I “divorce” my sister?

Question by Wonder: How can I “divorce” my sister?
I don’t like my sister and I decide not to have anything to do with her anymore. I don’t even want to be as a “legal” sister with her. How can I “divorce” her? Is “divorce” the term that I use? What legal paper work I should file? Thanks
Well, she is doing something illegal, I do not want to get in trouble, I think I should protect myself by doing something “legal separation” with her.
We are in our 40s. We are not living together now but my previous address during my 20s are together with her.

Document every, single thing he does. Get an attorney and perhaps a restraining order. Those children deserve better than that. Men like that make me sick.
