Q&A: Can you divorce in OK and instead of waiting the 6mos b4 marrying some1 else go 2 another state to get married?
Question by Babydoll: Can you divorce in OK and instead of waiting the 6mos b4 marrying some1 else go 2 another state to get married?
In Oklahoma you have to wait 6 months from the divorce decree to be allowed to remarry someone else. I want to know if during this time if I go to Texas or somewhere else and that state only mandates a 31 day wait, can I get married in another state and will it be a legal and recognized marriage in Oklahoma?

That’s a good question and I do not really know how OK would handle this, I do not practice there. I suppose if you wanted to try it and then sue OK federally for a violation of your US C rights to marry, you could. (which will take you years, and good luck with all that lol)
Otherwise, you could just use the law the way it was intended, and take a break from marriage until you have a chance to learn how to do it right. Anyone worth marrying now will be worth marrying in 6 months.
